Approximately an 8 hour classroom based first aid course designed for responders who would handle emergency situations outside of an urban setting, where EMS help may be 30-60 minutes away. Emphasis is placed on the student’s ability to properly assess and treat a variety of injuries and hazards, using the contents of a prepared first aid bag and improvised materials. Students will cover a wide range of topics including:
- Medical Emergencies
- Environmental Hazards
- Wound and Burn Care
- Bone and Joint Injuries
- Patient History/Assessment
- Emergency Patient Moves
(This course does not include CPR/AED training.) There are no pre-requisites for this class. All students receive a comprehensive student manual prior to the first day of class. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive an ASHI Wilderness First Aid certification card valid for 3 years.
